It’s clear REI put a lot of thought into these shorts. It took a little force to stuff my large Samsung smartphone in the pocket, and I could certainly imagine busting a seam trying to fit it in if I wasn’t careful. I only say this because the shell fabric is really thin - much thinner than most of the shorts I tested - and they softened up a bit with each wash cycle.
