If you need help with pleating (it’s really just a lot of measuring and ironing), there are a ton of great tutorials online. I used strips of the same fabric (with raw edges again) as ties but you could also use ribbon, if you like. Over that seam on the inside, sew on your ties. I put this seam a little off-center on the neck so you can adjust that to your liking. Once you’ve got the size you like for the wrists and neck, sew a zigzag stitch down the center to secure the pleats. I left the edges raw because I liked the look but you could also hem those before you start pleating. If you have been pleating a while and it looks like you’ll wind up short of fabric, don’t start over-just sew on another piece. I don’t have the exact dimensions of the fabric but leave it three or four times longer than you’ll want it to end up on one side and the exact width you want on the other. I started with a large rectangle of white fabric for each piece and ironed pleats into them until they were the length I wanted.
Scrapbook adhesive squares: Stick down the heart and any loose corners at the end with the adhesive squares. If you have a sewing machine and know basics (and I mean basics- I’m no seamstress!) the cuffs and neck piece are actually pretty easy. I prefer using tape rolls that allow some give before you stick them down tight and flat.
Scotch Tape : I tried using glue dots but since you sometimes need to re-position the cards I found them too sticky and bumpy.I’ve purchased both Bicycle and Maverik brands at the Dollar Store, both with red backs.
*IMPORTANT…if you want your heart to be red, make sure you get at least one deck of cards with red backs.
(2) Decks RED playing cards* standard size. I used IKEA’s Ribba size 50 x 70cm which is approximately 20” x 27.5” You can also go big and create an awesome photo backdrop wall with these super jumbo playing cards. But if you’d like to create a smaller version you can find miniature playing cards for the best price I've seen or for quick and easy check out they are also on Amazon. Materials needed:Ī large frame is needed to accommodate the standard size playing cards. I like the proportions of the white frame better and the hearts turn out to be about the same size. Learn from my mistakes, and have a great time creating this classic Queen of Hearts art. I just made another one so I could get process photos and it went much more smoothly the second time. I’ve tried to reduce the curve and give you pointers on what made the project easier for me. It’s that people have different levels of crafting experience and when doing anything for the first time we all have a certain learning curve. I will walk you through each step like I would my 6-year-old daughter. Time commitment: 2 ½ HOURS be frustration free.
